UTMACH Wastewater Grinder | Principles, Structure, and Selection Guide
A wastewater grinder from UTMACH is a machine that uses a set of blades to cut and shred debris in sewage into fine particles. After passing through the grinder, the wastewater flows into pumps and other downstream equipment without causing blockages. Since the shredded debris does not need to be removed or transported, pumping stations equipped with grinder can usually be designed as fully underground systems. It also called water macerator, sewer crusher, UTMACH disintegrator, comminutor micrizer, submersible grinder, etc.
1. Principles of the Grinder
The grinder works by cutting sewage debris into fine particles through a blade assembly. After passing through the grinder machine, wastewater enters pumps and other downstream equipment without causing blockages. As the shredded debris does not require removal or transportation, wastewater pumping stations using grinder screens are often designed as fully underground systems.
2. Structure of the Grinder
The grinder consists mainly of two parts: the power transmission system and the cutting and water-passing system. The power transmission system includes the motor and gearbox, connected by a coupling. The cutting and water-passing system mainly includes the cutting blade assembly (driving and driven groups) and the water-passing drum (grate bars). The power system and the cutting system are connected by couplings and gear transmission. During operation, the motor drives the blade assembly and drum via the gearbox, gears, and couplings. The drum continuously rotates inward, transferring debris to the blades, which then shred the debris from the wastewater.
3. Process Selection of the Grinder
The main selection parameters for UTMACH grinder include water flow rate, upstream water level, debris volume, and water quality. The drum height and diameter are determined primarily by the water flow rate. Motor selection mainly depends on the water level in front of the screen. If the motor may be submerged, it must have a protection rating of IP67 or higher. The blade shape and blade set height are determined by the debris volume, while the materials of the blade set, drum, and frame depend on the wastewater quality.
